Scaling Talent Acquisition: Expanding AIIB’s Talent Reach Through Member-Sponsored Roadshows

In today’s competitive global market for top-tier talent, organizations must adopt new approaches to attract professionals who will drive their missions forward. At AIIB, this commitment to innovation extends beyond its projects to how it engages with potential employees. Recognizing the need to scale recruitment efforts while optimizing costs, AIIB’s Talent Acquisition team has launched a Member-Sponsored Recruitment Roadshow initiative that not only enhances awareness about the Bank and its mission, but also creates connections between the Bank and the local talent pool, facilitates in-person conversations, and highlights the agile and collaborative nature of the institution.

Studies show that in-person engagement is one of the most effective ways to build employer brand awareness and connect with high-quality candidates. According to LinkedIn’s Global Talent Trends Report, candidates are 1.4 times more likely to respond to job opportunities after engaging directly with recruiters or employees at events.

For AIIB, which is still solidifying its global presence in the highly competitive space of multilateral development banking, roadshows are critical. These events not only introduce potential candidates to AIIB’s mission but allow the Bank to demonstrate its intentional and personalized approach to recruitment. From an HR perspective, this method is particularly effective in breaking through the noise of digital recruitment and creating lasting impressions. Direct engagements allow the Bank to showcase its unique value proposition—including its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and building infrastructure for tomorrow.

With a fixed recruitment budget, AIIB could previously afford to fund only two roadshows per year. However, by partnering with its Members to host these Member-Sponsored Recruitment Roadshow events in government halls and other public venues, AIIB has been able to expand its global outreach while targeting local talent in key markets.

In 2024, AIIB was able to conduct four roadshows through the support of the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Indonesia. With the success of 2024’s pilots, the Bank has laid the foundation for a sustainable and scalable model that not only supports its mission but also strengthens its relationships with member economies.

Scott Fitzgerald, Head of Talent Acquisition, reflected on the success of these partnerships: "We are incredibly grateful to the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Indonesia for their gracious and generous support in hosting our pilot roadshows. Their willingness to bring AIIB closer to talented professionals in their regions has been inspiring. From the support of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance in Türkiye to the enthusiastic engagement in Indonesia, these roadshows showcased the exceptional talent and energy that these economies contribute to AIIB."

Employer branding is a strategic priority for organizations aiming to attract and retain top talent, particularly in competitive sectors like international development.

As Asma Shaikh, Acting Vice President, Chief Administration Officer and Director General of the Human Resources Department, said: "The Member-Sponsored Recruitment Roadshow is a cornerstone of our Talent Strategy 2030, which aims to position AIIB as the employer of choice in international development. By partnering with our members, we amplify AIIB's presence while fostering closer relationships with the communities we serve. It’s a win-win for the Bank and our Members, as we create a platform for identifying diverse and exceptional talent to drive our mission forward."

AIIB operates in 110 member economies and is committed to workforce diversity. Roadshows enable the Bank to connect with a wide array of candidates from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. Engaging with local talent pools in different regions ensures that AIIB is not only accessing the best talent but also enhancing its internal diversity—a critical factor for success in multilateral organizations.

As Brian Hipolito, Senior HR Officer, explained: "Awareness is the first step in promoting AIIB and attracting a more diverse pool of applicants. With this Member-sponsored approach, we’ve been able to expand our reach, touch new talent markets, and showcase AIIB's compelling career opportunities. The roadshows in Türkiye and Indonesia have been a testament to how powerful collaboration with our member economies can be in building awareness and interest in the Bank’s mission."

AIIB plans to scale this initiative further, engaging more Members economies to host roadshows and open opportunities for their local workforce to embark on global careers.

How China’s Forest Project is Transforming Agriculture in the North

China’s Three-North Shelterbelt Program, also known as the Sanbei Program, is one of the world’s largest ecological initiatives. Launched in 1978 and set to continue until 2050, this ambitious project aims to combat desertification and reduce the frequency of sandstorms by planting vast areas of trees or other resilient plant species across northern China’s arid and semi-arid regions. While its primary goal is environmental, the program has also had profound effects on agricultural production, making farming more sustainable and productive in an area long plagued by harsh weather conditions.
