Our Institutional Engagement and Cooperation Team drives AIIB’s overall relationship management and strategic engagement with sovereign and non-sovereign partners, originating, managing, and maintaining operational partnerships across multilateral and bilateral institutions, technical agencies, philanthropies, knowledge partners, multilateral platforms and more. We work with our partners to advance collaborative initiatives, while ensuring alignment with high international standards.

We also coordinate AIIB’s presence and engagement in major global and regional summits, platforms and fora, including the G20, MDB Heads Group, UN General Assembly (UNGA), and the Conference of the Parties. Through participation in these platforms, we actively contribute to the global development architecture, advancing the Bank’s influence on the world stage.

Collaboration with MDBs

AIIB is a member of the Heads of MDBs Group. We also proactively participate and contribute to the discussions of various MDB strategic and working groups on a wide range of topics related to shared development challenges. For instance, AIIB is a contributor to the joint MDB Viewpoint Note on “MDBs Working as a System for Impact and Scale”.

G20

AIIB cooperates with global leaders and partners on global policy matters, notably as an observer in the Group of Twenty (G20) Finance Track. Through our participation in meetings of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors and G20 Finance Deputies, as well as participation in the G20 Finance track workstreams including the International Financial Architecture Working Group, Infrastructure Working Group, Framework Working Group, Sustainable Finance Working Group, and the Joint Finance and Health Task Force, AIIB supports knowledge sharing and policy coordination.

UN

Since 2018, AIIB has been granted Permanent Observer status in the United Nations. We continue to enhance our global and regional engagement, to multiply our impact and better respond to our clients and to broader development needs.

COP

AIIB is an active participant at the annual United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference (COP). This reflects the Bank’s commitment to serving as Asia’s climate partner, and financing infrastructure investments that address the climate challenge within the region and beyond. Through contributions to Joint MDB efforts, AIIB-led events and knowledge sharing sessions, we seek to develop strong partnerships to boost climate action, deliver holistic approaches across climate mitigation, adaptation and nature, and finally to boost tailored innovation for greater impact.

FFD4

AIIB participated in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in 2025, contributing to the Global Financing Playbook initiative. The collaborative initiative provides a practical framework to support country-led strategies for sustainable development and climate action.

FiCS

AIIB has been a member of the Finance in Common (FiCS) Executive Committee since 2021, and subscribed to the FiCS declaration in 2023, alongside the World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Inter-American Development Bank (IaDB). In 2025, AIIB co-hosted the Finance in Common (FiCS) Summit 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa, in partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and the French Development Agency (AFD).

Regional Fora

We are committed to partnering closely with regional programs and initiatives to strengthen regional connectivity with a focus on cross-border connectivity (CBC).

To achieve our ambitious target for CBC project financing to represent to represent 25-30% of all financing approvals by 2030, AIIB is proactively engaging with the following regional and sub-regional programs and initiatives at various levels including ministerial-level fora and relevant sector working groups:

AIIB has been contributing to projects which are of critical importance to strengthening regional cooperation and promoting economic growth. These projects are part of the pipelines of our regional cooperation partners.

To promote regional cooperation through the identification and development of bankable CBC projects in its Members, AIIB, in partnership with relevant regional institutions and development partners, has launched the following initiatives designed to facilitate multi-country coordination on capacity building and upstream project preparation.
