Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) are at the core of AIIB's strategies, policies, and operations. AIIB actively discloses its ESG practices and impact as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable development.
Key ESG Frameworks
Comprehensive frameworks and reporting that demonstrate AIIB's commitment to transparency and sustainable development
The ESF incorporates the Environmental and Social Policy (ESP), the Environmental and Social Standard (ESSs), and the Environmental and Social Exclusion List (ESEL). The ESP and the ESSs establish the mandatory environmental and social requirements applicable to all projects.
The Corporate Strategy underscores the Bank's commitment to sustainability. The Bank has developed sector strategies for energy, water, transport, sustainable cities, digital infrastructure, and health, consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Bank has developed a Climate Action Plan and Gender Action Plan to outline the practical steps it takes to consistently and systematically integrate climate and gender considerations into operations.
In the instance that project-affected people believe to have been or are likely to be adversely affected by the Bank's failure to implement its ESP, the PPM will evaluate any concerns raised. The PPM is independent and impartial and reports directly to the Bank's Board of Directors.
The Bank annually monitors and verifies its institutional carbon emissions, reporting them in its Carbon Footprint Report to ensure transparency and accountability.
Since 2019, AIIB has made tremendous efforts to integrate sustainability into its annual meetings and events through the Act Green Together Initiative and the Bank's Sustainable Event Management Framework, which aligns with ISO 20121.
AIIB's Code of Conduct for Suppliers outlines the expectations for suppliers regarding their ESG practices, ensuring sustainability throughout the supply chain.
The conditions of service as well as the rights, duties, and obligations of the Bank and its personnel are outlined in the Code of Conduct for Board Officials, Code of Conduct for Bank Personnel, Staff Regulations, and Staff Rules.
The Bank is committed to the highest standards of integrity in its operations as mandated in its Policy on Prohibited Practices (PPP). Suspected prohibited practices may be submitted to AIIB through the Complaints-resolution, Evaluation and Integrity Unit's online form.
The Staff Regulations and Staff Rules outline the measures at AIIB to promote equal opportunity. AIIB conducts EDGE certification and assessment every two years to ensure fair and merit-based practices and policies.
The Directive on Protection against Retaliation establishes mechanisms to ensure that the Bank protects whistleblowers from retaliation. Any report of potential misconduct can be submitted to the Ethics Office through the hotline on the AIIB website.
Data privacy is a fundamental component of the Bank’s Governance (G) pillar and reflects its commitment to accountability, transparency, ethical data management, and responsible stewardship of information assets.
