Key Highlights

Diversified Sovereign Shareholder Base
AIIB has 111 approved members, including 10 AAA-rated sovereigns and 17 G20 countries. This broad, globally diversified ownership base is larger than most other AAA/Aaa-rated multilateral development banks.
Robust Governance and Risk Framework
AIIB has a comprehensive risk management framework, which aligns with highly rated peers. Risk management practices are designed to preserve financial resilience and maintain capacity for counter-cyclical lending through periods of stress. AIIB's voting power structure benefits smaller shareholders, as it increases their relative voting power above their shareholding percentage over time.
High Capitalization and Liquidity Buffers
The Bank has a strong capital position with amble capacity to absorb losses and weather adverse economic and market conditions while continuing to support its development mandate. The Bank maintains substantial liquidity buffers, with a policy requirement to hold liquid assets covering at least 40% of projected net cash flow needs over the next three years.
Preferred Creditor Status
In line with other MDBs, AIIB expects to benefit from preferred creditor treatment (e.g., no requirement to participate in any rescheduling of national debt in any of its Members). Member liabilities to AIIB, such as sovereign loans or sovereign guarantees on private sector projects, rank on par with their obligations to the IMF and other MDBs.
