Following the declaration of Mpox as a Public Health Emergency by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pandemic Fund Governing Board approved five proposals to help ten African countries address this health risk. One proposal, “Strengthening Pandemic Prevention and Response through One Health Approach in Rwanda” was from the Government of Rwanda, with AIIB as Implementing Entity.
Under the grant, AIIB will facilitate activities centered on digital initiatives such as establishing a national laboratory system to strengthen laboratory management and use across the lab network and establishing a national health intelligence center for early warning on climate-related diseases, incorporating data integration, remote monitoring technology, and risk stratification for a comprehensive climate health surveillance system. AIIB will provide technical support to the Government of Rwanda for the construction of the health surveillance system, with a focus on operationalizing a national web-based data platform for knowledge exchange across the human, animal, and environmental health sectors.
