DESCRIPTION

The project aims to enhance the livelihood of communities in targeted river basins in Cambodia through the adoption of an integrated water resource management (IWRM) approach. This strategy focuses on the development of resilient infrastructure, sustainable asset management, and addressing climate adaptation needs within the target river basins. These target areas cover the rivers of Moung Russey, Pursat, Sanker, and Svay Don Keo, all located southwest of the Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia.

A Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) grant was approved in July 2022, to be blended with Technical Assistance (TA) grants from the Asian Development Bank. Such funding would be essential for conducting advanced project preparation activities, which includes finalizing key procurement documents and social surveys. The PPSF grant will also finance consultancy services for detailed engineering designs phase 1. Supplemental funds in the amount of USD3,499,740 was approved in May 2024 to support the detailed engineering designs phase 2 and its associated survey activities, as well as other procurement packages of the project.

The PPSF grant will be primarily implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) of Cambodia. Of the total combined PPSF grant of USD4.94 million, USD0.05 will be directly managed by AIIB for start-up preparatory activities.
