Cambodia has experienced intense flooding and extended droughts over the past two decades and there is an urgent need to build resilience in its water resources sector. The Country Climate Resilient Sustainable Irrigation and Water Drought and Flood Mitigation Project Phase 1 (the Project) aims to improve irrigation service delivery and mitigate the impact of flooding and drought on the country’s food production and rural livelihoods.
The Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) grant will support the preparation of the proposed Country Climate Resilient Sustainable Irrigation and Water Drought and Flood Mitigation Project Phase 1. The PPSF grant will enable comprehensive preparation activities toward an implementation-ready Project designed to bring optimum socioeconomic impacts and climate resilience. The PPSF grant will mainly support (i) feasibility studies, (ii) environmental and social studies, (iii) surveys (topographical, hydrological, etc.), (iv) detailed engineering design, (v) capacity strengthening of key stakeholders and beneficiaries, and other preparatory works required for the preparation of the Project.
The PPSF grant will be implemented mainly by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology. Of the total grant of USD4.95 million, USD0.45 million will be executed directly by AIIB for preparatory activities, establishing a framework for selecting and prioritizing investments and integrating innovative approaches into the Project design.
