Bangladesh: Support for Bangladesh Private Capital Infrastructure Financing

DESCRIPTION

The MCDF grant will be used to support City Bank PLC (CBL), a private commercial bank headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in enhancing its environmental and social management system (ESMS). Incorporated in 1983, CBL offers a wide range of financial products and services to corporate, small and medium enterprises and consumer clients.

The enhancement of CBL’s ESMS will strengthen CBL’s institutional capacity to implement international standards in managing environmental and social risks and impacts. This enhanced capacity will support their implementation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)’s Bangladesh Private Capital Infrastructure Financing project (the Project).

The MCDF grant will also facilitate knowledge sharing and the dissemination of best practices to CBL’s sub-borrowers involved in infrastructure development activities. This will have a leveraging effect, raising overall standards and practices related to infrastructure projects in Bangladesh.
