DESCRIPTION

The Climate Adaptive Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture for Resilience Project will restore rural adaptative capacity by enhancing irrigation systems to address vulnerabilities for food security in rural areas of four provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia through two Components: (i) Development of smart rural infrastructure; and (ii) Development of Institutional Capacity. The proposed investments under this project will support the efforts of the Government of Cambodia (Goc) to sustain food security and rural livelihood during and after the COVID-19 crisis through the restoration and enhancement of smart and climate resilient irrigation systems under the theme of “Build Back Better”.

The Project Preparation Special Fund grant will provide Direct Technical Assistance (USD0.2 million, to be executed by AIIB) for preliminary project preparation activities and Financial Assistance (USD 4.5 million, to be executed by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the GoC for the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology) for consulting services in two phases: (i) Phase 1 for feasibility study, stakeholders’ consultation and land and topographic surveys, hydraulic modeling of irrigation system and flood management, climate vulnerability assessment and incremental operating costs; and (ii) Phase 2 for detailed engineering design and capacity development activities after confirmation of the financing plan.
