Uzbekistan: Uzbekistan Public Distributed Solar Energy Development

DESCRIPTION

This Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) grant will support the project preparation activities and capacity building activities for the Uzbekistan Public Distributed Solar Energy Development project which supports the Government of Uzbekistan plan to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy generation. The Project aims to invest into 100 MW of solar power systems on rooftops of public buildings primarily in areas experiencing electricity shortages. It will help reduce the grid load, avoid transmission and distribution losses, and cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The Special Fund Project Preparation grant will be used to conduct preparatory activities to enhance implementation readiness and the quality of the proposed investment. Specifically, the grant will support consultancy services for the preparation of feasibility studies, including site assessments, review of legal and regulatory frameworks, preparation of design, procurement packages, and development of environment and social (E&S) instruments. The grant will also finance capacity building activities for Yashil Energiya LLC- the Project Implementation Entity.

The Special Fund grant will be implemented by the Yashil Energiya LLC, which was established in March 2023 based on Uzbekistan Presidential Resolution No. 57, dated February 16, 2023.
