The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank Group signed an updated memorandum of understanding (MOU) to deepen operational collaboration and address evolving development priorities.
Signed by AIIB President Zou Jiayi and World Bank President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, the agreement builds on the institutions’ established partnership and reflects the growing scope of their cooperation against a dynamic and rapidly evolving landscape.
The updated MOU identifies water, digital development, private capital mobilization and policy-based financing as key areas for enhanced collaboration. The two sides will seek to leverage their respective expertise, strengthen cooperation and explore opportunities to mobilize additional financing for sustainable development.
“This enhanced partnership reflects our shared commitment to sustainable development. By deepening cooperation, we can leverage our complementary strengths, mobilize more capital for high-impact projects and help economies build greener, more resilient and better-connected infrastructure that delivers lasting development impact,” Zou said.
To date, AIIB remains the largest co-financier of the World Bank. The updated MOU reinforces both institutions’ shared commitment to working with partners to address infrastructure gaps, strengthen development impact and support economies in advancing sustainable, resilient and inclusive growth.
