Cosimo Thawley was appointed to the Board of Directors on July 1, 2026. He will also be Minister-Counsellor and Senior Treasury Representative to China at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.
He is a senior executive in the Australian Government, with 15 years’ experience at the intersection of international and economic policy. From 2021 to 2026, he was the Australian Treasury Representative to Southeast Asia, based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and covering the ASEAN region. Prior to this, he was Director, Foreign Investment, at the Australian Treasury; Senior Adviser to the Foreign Investment Review Board; and Senior Adviser to the Treasurer of Australia. Cosimo started his career at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where he was posted as Third Secretary to Jakarta.
Cosimo has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics and History from Pomona College in Claremont, California, and a Certificate in Global Management from INSEAD in Singapore.
