AIIB’s 2025 Impact Report Shows Sustainable Infrastructure Delivering for People, Communities and Economies

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s (AIIB) Sustainable Development Bonds Impact Report 2025 shows how a decade of investment in sustainable infrastructure is delivering impact for people, communities and economies across Asia and beyond.

In 2025, AIIB approved USD10.6 billion in financing for 57 projects, with 71% of total approved regular financing dedicated to climate-positive outcomes, up from 67% the previous year.

Examples include AIIB’s investments in climate resilient and inclusive roads in Côte d'Ivoire, the first hospital under Kazakhstan’s public-private partnership program, and climate-adaptive water management across Cambodia’s Pursat and Sangker river basins.

“AIIB has grown from an ambitious idea into a bank that delivers tangible impact for our members and their people,” AIIB President Zou Jiayi said. “As we begin our second decade, we will keep building a future where development and sustainability go hand in hand.”

This year’s report introduces a stronger focus on achieved results, complementing expected outcomes. A flagship example is Indonesia’s National Slum Upgrading Project, which reached 8.66 million people against a 7 million target, including 4.4 million women.

The report also highlights how AIIB’s Sustainable Development Bond program connects capital raised in global markets with development impact. In 2025 the Bank completed its largest borrowing program to date, raising USD10.2 billion across 13 currencies including the first public-format Hong Kong dollar bond by an international issuer, 3 fixed rate US-dollar benchmark bonds priced across the curve in a single year, and a second Climate Adaptation Bond.

“The proceeds from these bonds go toward green, social and sustainable projects,” AIIB Acting Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Domenico Nardelli said. “This report is how we show investors, dollar for dollar, what that financing delivers.”

Across the wider portfolio, projects approved through 2025 are expected to eventually avoid 35 million tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually, extend improved health facilities and services to 274 million people, and provide over 25 million people improved access to safely managed drinking water.
